  • K9EQ-Chris : Ads now say that the CD-41 can be used with the SAD-25 charger which I think is 10.5.
  • K3FZT4-Steve : will give it a good charge then on Wednesday
  • K3FZT4-Steve : I'm going to leave the radio out and take it to the club meeting tomorrow
  • K3FZT4-Steve : The SAD-24 which is powering the CD=41 says it is putting out 12V at 0.5A so that's not 600ma
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK
  • KF5NXR - John : I'll check on that heat question you have as well.
  • KF5NXR - John : I've got one of those 12(10.5)-16V 600mA chargers! input and 8.4v 600 mA out
  • K9EQ-Chris : Anybody with a CD-41 drop in charger where the input voltage range is different from 12 - 16V?

  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Joel and yes the 991 will not transmit if the squelch is open in GM so turn your squelch down to zero.
  • K0OQL-Joel : Is there a way for tech class to monitor the 10m C4FM without transmitting? Turning power down will still put out a signal.
  • K0OQL-Joel : I am in on the HF info.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Dan
  • N0PXT-Shane : Good Evening Dan.
  • KB9WGP-Dan : Good evening from WI

  • guest_9591 : 12/20/2022
  • guest_9591 : ... to transmit outside of the spec ranges. Is this true?
  • guest_9591 : I have a few GRMS type radios, but they very in spec frequencies band ranges. I am still able to hear outside of the band range though transmitting only works on the spec ranges. This kind of makes perfect sense to me; to isolate band ranges based on functional usages of those ranges. So anyway, I know another person claiming they are a ham operator who says you can set the device via programming/
  • guest_9591 : My question:
  • guest_9591 : cool. so I have a question for an experienced Ham operator as I am just beginning to learn, and although I would think this should be an easy question to find the answer to online, it seems no one is talking about this nuance.
  • guest_9591 : testing to see how live this is.

  • W4IOD-Odis : John, I think you will be fine
  • KF5NXR - John : Evening Odis! Hoping Chuk audio isn't low tonight! I find I have to turn him up and the rest of everyone else down, back and for the entire net!
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello John

  • KC9IL : Confirmed!
  • K3FZT-Steve : Yep. Sure is.
  • K9EQ-Chris : YSF is back.
  • KC9IL : Will advice when YSF comes back.
  • KC9IL : No worries. I'm listening on WIRES-X.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Computers lie to you! It said it was working. Should be back soon. You can always listen to the live stream.
  • K3FZT-Steve : The YSF reflector is not live at my location in Philadelphia.
  • KC9IL : I'm seeing it connected, but not hearing any audio. I rebooted it, still nothing.
  • KC9IL : Is the YSF bridge not working tonite?
  • K9EQ-Chris : Right now 2487 nodes are active of which 162 are analog.
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Hi Odis!
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello, John, Marty, & Phil
  • KK4FWU-Phil : good evening

  • N0kew : Hello
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK SK
  • KF5NXR - John : Roger Roger Chris!
  • K9EQ-Chris : A lot of people have their audio too high. Chuck's is a bit on the low side, which is okay. But when somebody has their audio so high it's clipping, then one needs to jump for the volume control.
  • KF5NXR - John : Always been curious why Chuk's K0ORK audio is so much lower than everyone else? Seems like I'm constantly have to turn the volume up and down throughout the net.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Marty
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Hello all 12/5
  • K9EQ-Chris : Live stream is active again tonight: http://podbean.com/lsw/MNWis
  • K9EQ-Chris : GE all
  • K3FZT-Steve : Good evening from Philadelphia, PA
  • W4IOD-Odis : Good evening all 12/5/2022
  • KM4NHN-Joe : Good evening everyone from Virginia
  • KF5NXR - John : 12/5/22 John here! Good Evening from Dallas, TX
  • K9EQ-Chris : 73 all. A total of 25 people connected to the live stream. Thanks!
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK SK
  • K9EQ-Chris : Latency is pretty good. The tool allows me to connect to "guests" to join the live stream. It can also take "calls" from "callers" using the smart phone app. So I suspect that's why low latency is needed.
  • KE0YJJ-RICK : smulcast is working fine little or NO LAG time . The simulcast is matching what is comning out of the hri 200 speaker jack. GOOD JOB CHRIS
  • W4IOD-Odis : Live audio ok on the iPhone and Podbean app running iOS 16.1.1
  • N9JTE-MARTY : (PodBean) OK I turned off all privacy options, ad blocking, contact blocking, private relay and it still is not playing. I can't find or think of anything else. Not really a big deal as FireFox is flawless.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Tnx for the info
  • KE0YJJ-RICK : Good evening Podcast working fine here in mn
  • W4IOD-Odis : Same here John
  • KF5NXR - John : VO1AX was 100% with no drops
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Yes I am poking around here and I'll see if there is anything else I can find.
  • KF5NXR - John : Thanks Chris! I see it now!
  • K9EQ-Chris : Marty: It's hard for me to test on the same computer that's hosting the stream. It would help if you can fiddle around and find something. I'll let podbean know, assuming they don't already.
  • K9EQ-Chris : They are provided by the retailer.
  • KF5NXR - John : Where are these coupons that Odis just spoke of?
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Yes I disabled blockers. No joy here.
  • K9EQ-Chris : I've had similar problems with Safari. Probably due to enhanced security. Try going into preferences for this web page and disable blocking. See if that helps.
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Chris the PodBeen live stream still not working for me on Safari. Does work on FireFox.
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Happy Monday from Trevor, WI
  • K9EQ-Chris : GE all. The live stream is running. If you can, please check it out and let us know how it works for you. http://podbean.com/lsw/MNWis

  • N0PXT-Shane : Same to you Dan!
  • KY4DWS-Dan : Very good to hear! Thanks for getting back with me. I'll try to join you all on the net one night. Glad I stumbled across it this evening, especially since our local repeater is not on your list 🙂 Have a great night and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
  • N0PXT-Shane : Ah yes, I don't own a FT-1 but I do have the FT-5D. Amazing radio. I even take it with me for search and rescue missions to beacon APRS since it's water resistant.
  • KY4DWS-Dan : Yaesu FT-1D. Hoping Santa might bring the FT-5DR this year lol.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Dan., Sure no problem and welcome! What radio are you using?
  • KY4DWS-Dan : Thanks Shane! I noticed there were three modes - I think it's on auto now, but I'll have to check the manual to be sure since it's not jumping out at me. Good tip. Appreciated!
  • N0PXT-Shane : Hey Dan, instead of being in Wires-X mode make sure the radio is in "AMS" or Automatic Mode Switching" That way you can hear both digital and analogue on the same memory or frequency.
  • KY4DWS-Dan : Hey all - Dan in Shelbyville KY, happened to turn on my HT for the first time in literally years and heard 'noise' - realized it might be data, hit wires-x, and boom there you all are. Thanks for a first tonight 🙂
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Hi Odis
  • N0PXT-Shane : Hello Phil
  • KK4FWU-Phil : good evening
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Marty

  • KC9IL : My FT-3 will only receive AM on 29.250.
  • N9JTE-MARTY : Cable map ~ Wow!
  • K0OQL-Joel : Seen it on fazebook
  • K9EQ-Chris : Never thought about using the FT5 on 29.250. Thanks for the hint Joel.
  • K0OQL-Joel : As seen on 'The Net' I used the FT5dr to monitor 29.250 GM function when I was away from home. More ham fun!

  • K3FZT-Steve : Good evening and thank you. 73 de K3FZT / Steve
  • KF5NXR - John : Getting past my bed time, night yall, 73!
  • K9EQ-Chris : I ran a DR1 with a real 6 dB gain on the Rx (UHF) and 120 watts output. No desense. But one hell of a duplexer.
  • KA1CNF-Steve : been meaning to...lol
  • KA1CNF-Steve : I guess i am just lazy to add anything there
  • K9EQ-Chris : KA1CNF: 210,000+ lookups on QRZ and no Bio? No pictures???!!!
  • KA1CNF-Steve : good to know about the same RX specs
  • KA1CNF-Steve : dr1x-fr would be easier to pull and try out than the dr2x installed at another site
  • K9EQ-Chris : DR1 and DR2 basically have the same Rx.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Yaesu specs are the minimum FCC requirements - probably what BC is doing. In my experience they do between 10 to 20 dB better. So for calculating your system, you should use closer to the actual numbers.
  • AI5AI-Don : either repeater
  • KA1CNF-Steve : Thank you!
  • KA1CNF-Steve : dr1x
  • KA1CNF-Steve : we may just pull a dr2x-fr from another site to try it out
  • KA1CNF-Steve : yep we also have a circulator on the repeater
  • KA1CNF-Steve : Thanks for the response and info!
  • KA1CNF-Steve : intermod rejection, spurious rejection and selectivity of yaesu similar to Bridgecom. Cannot find specs on Micor
  • KA1CNF-Steve : the micor had trouble until DCI 4 pole filter installed.
  • KA1CNF-Steve : mobile in a box bothers me also, I hear it too often from hams
  • AI5AI-Don : Chri is going where I was going.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Don, your on deck
  • AI5AI-Don : I can help. Maybe
  • KA1CNF-Steve : I am listening
  • W4IOD-Odis : rgr
  • KA1CNF-Steve : yes
  • W4IOD-Odis : Steve, I will mention it on air if that's ok?
  • KA1CNF-Steve : Does anyone have any comments or experience with a DR2X in a high RF environment? Ongoing debate at one of the local clubs to replace a Motorola Micor with something else. Some folks reject the Yaesu repeater outright saying it is just 2 mobiles in a box....thanks

  • K9EQ-Chris : The Blue Parrott depends on what you want. I have the 350 from years back. Nice thing I discovered about them is that they now have apps and firmware updates that add the "new" features to old products.
  • N0ANE : I am also using cheap generic Chinese trucker headsets and they work just fine.
  • N0ANE : I’ve been much happier with the FTM 300 over the 100 or 400. None of the vox drop out problems that they had.
  • KF5NXR-John : To the gentleman that is using the Blue Parrott solution for bluetooth, what model number of headset is he using that works?

  • KF5NXR-John : Alright folks, having another meeting to held to, 73 and have a great week !
  • KC9IL-Warren : I think he called Yaesu Tech Support today.
  • KC9IL-Warren : We see his repeater and his personal call on the WIRES-X console (lights up green), but transmissions don't go thru. Inbound traffic is fine.
  • K9EQ-Chris : I don't think we have any more ideas. Next step would be to remote into his station and play around.
  • KC9IL-Warren : Still having the problem. Outbound transmissions on Rooms don't key up repeaters or nodes.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Warren, we haven't heard from him.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Haven't heard him
  • KC9IL-Warren : Did Ruffers check in regarding his transmit issue from last week?
  • K9EQ-Chris : Suggest running it off of the AC supply with the battery removed. That exposes the heat sink and may help it stay cooler. At 5 out you're putting 22 watts in.
  • K9EQ-Chris : I've ejected VK5RSC, we'll see if that helps.
  • KM6ARL : Arggh, you guys are right, it's set to Hi and while connected it will not let me change the setting. I will change after the net. Thanks.
  • AI5AI-Don : And we were talking about "LIDS" last week!
  • AI5AI-Don : You need to run the handheld at the lowest power swtting. The handheld will get hot.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Mostly depends on how much it's transmitting. I'd run it at the lowest possible power level. It's not designed for long-duration transmitting.
  • KM6ARL : In PDN mode does anyone else have a very hot (temperature) FT-3dr ?
  • W4IOD-Odis : MAX HEADROOM!!!
  • KF5NXR-John : Letting bit of looping! Goodness! GE Odis
  • W4IOD-Odis : GE John
  • AI5AI-Don : What is "Going to be 73"?
  • KF5NXR-John : yes or more in the past in the past 24 hours
  • N0PXT-Shane : a foot of rain!
  • KF5NXR-John : amazing places around us got a foot or more of rain, all we got was .37 inches here in Caddo Mills, TX. Go figure...
  • KF5NXR-John : Good Evening Everyone! Sorry I'm running a little late this evening!
  • AI5AI-Don : Hello Chris
  • K9EQ-Chris : GE all
  • AI5AI-Don : Hoedy Odis
  • W4IOD-Odis : HowDEE Don
  • W4IOD-Odis : Good evening all 8/22/2022
  • AI5AI-Don : Yes sir/ It had been that way here as well. Some sections of Dallas has received around 14 inches. i just got about 1.5 inches. but i'm about 90 miles south of Texas
  • N0PXT-Shane : really? Where I live here north of the Twin Cities I would say we are almost in drought conditions I think we got a little over an inch of rain last week which was the first decent rain in two months.
  • AI5AI-Don : Hello Shane, Right now Texas is very wet in some places.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Hi Don! How are things in Texas?
  • AI5AI-Don : Howdy y'all from Texas 08/22/2022
  • AI5AI-Don : Thanks Chris
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK SK
  • K9EQ-Chris : 73 Don and may the coming week be LID-free.
  • AI5AI-Don : Good night everyone from Texas! 73
  • K9EQ-Chris : And yet another one: he story that most often makes the rounds in amateur radio circles is that some telegraphers used the lid of a Prince Albert tobacco can to better hear the sounder. These fellows were, in general, poor operators, and “lid” became the designation of any poor operator.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Last bit of previous message: Over time a poor or incapable operator that had been or was about to be “lifted” became known as a “LID”.
  • K9EQ-Chris : And another: One explanation was that when a relay office Telegrapher couldn’t handle the work on the wire he was assigned to, he was “lifted” off the job and reassigned or let go. In telegrapher parlance, when discussing such events over the wires, other operators shortened the word ” lifted” to ” li’d”. Over time a poor or incapable operator that had been or was about to be “li
  • K9EQ-Chris : The quote is from https://www.quora.com/profile/David-10668/
  • K9EQ-Chris : And there's this: Others may have a more plausible answer, but my recollection is that a Morse code operator who sends sloppy, erratic code sounds like he’s using the ‘lid’ off a jar rather than an actual telegraphy key. The term generally means a poor operator who causes problems for other operators.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Good night Joe
  • KM4NHN-Joe : Good night everyone. Eyelids are getting heavy
  • KM4NHN-Joe : lol
  • KK4FWU-Phil : lol i hear the music version often
  • K9EQ-Chris : And here's the musical version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiLtlz1e1Is
  • KM4NHN-Joe : I try to avoid that frequency as much as possible.
  • KK4FWU-Phil : i dont need to. thanks though
  • K9EQ-Chris : You can check here: https://www.repeater-builder.com/humor/how-to-sound-like-a-lid.html for instructions on how to be a LID.
  • KK4FWU-Phil : those are just jackasses
  • KM4NHN-Joe : There are plenty on 7.200
  • KK4FWU-Phil : ahhh
  • K9EQ-Chris : "LID" is a term used to indicate a station using, er, poor station practices. Comes from the ol' CW days. Don't know about the letters LID. Have to look that up. But "LID" = Lousy operator and, perhaps, somewhat annoying.
  • KM4NHN-Joe : A bad operator.
  • KF5NXR-John : I love the camera mic!
  • KK4FWU-Phil : what is a LID?
  • W4IOD-Odis : Keep preaching Don and I'll pass the hat
  • K9EQ-Chris : I typically assign 46100 - 46190 as a block. The extra port #'s are available for other things.
  • AI5AI-Don : Since the no code license came about allowed more to come in.
  • KF5NXR-John : 46100 46110 46112 46114 46120 46122
  • KF5NXR-John : Ports
  • KF5NXR-John : https://www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/contact/pdf/WIRES-X_Manual_ENG_1606-E0.pdf
  • W4IOD-Odis : Don, no shortage of them trust me, I'm speaking from experience.
  • AI5AI-Don : Not really! I just get tired of these LIDs!
  • K9EQ-Chris : Odis and I both think that should work.
  • KA1CNF-Steve : Thank you for the response. I will try it without changing the User ID
  • K9EQ-Chris : Don: Sounds like you've been having "fun".
  • W4IOD-Odis : GE Steve
  • W4IOD-Odis : I heard just ribbing you a bit
  • K3FZT-Steve : Good evening.
  • AI5AI-Don : Odis. We do not have nets on the TXNX. That guy does not know how to use his radios. That was another Ares net. So far the two people that were net controls are VERY rude and WILL NOT listen to what they were told. As you can tell I have a very bad taste in my mouth from that group.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Hi John.
  • KF5NXR-John : GE everyone!
  • K9EQ-Chris : GE
  • W4IOD-Odis : Thanks for joining us Phil good to have you
  • W4IOD-Odis : Don, I hear you have been hosting Tuesday evening Kentucky nets in the Texas room What's up with that? 🙂
  • KK4FWU : gonna hang out in chat tonight
  • W4IOD-Odis : GE Phil
  • KK4FWU : good Evening
