  • K9EQ-Chris : It has the ability to transmit digital information through any Port Controller for relay further down the chain. Naturally it is Allstar compatible.
  • AI5AI-Don : That sounds like one of the Pi-Star controllers. There are several of those installed by a ham ls south of Waco Texas. you can come in analog or digital and connect to Fusion, or DMR, or D*, and more.
  • K9EQ-Chris : The Port Controller can accept either/both an analog interface and a digital interface. Internally all audio is converted to digital at the Port Controller, thus all audio processing is done in the digital domain.
  • K9EQ-Chris : The Port Controller is attached to a radio and makes the appropriate Rx Tx connections using only one Ethernet cable to go back to the main controller.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Each module is simple both electrically and software wise, allowing individuals to independently work on different modules.
  • K9EQ-Chris : The controller would be modular and based on the RPi and RPi Pico. Multiple CPUs communicate on a CAN network. A Port Controller is associated with each radio.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Don, I have way too much money invested in my gear to trash any of my Yaesu equipment but most of my gear is old like me 😂
  • K9EQ-Chris : Don, I have a working concept for a "digital" repeater controller. The idea is that all repeater controllers are analog except those dedicated to DMR, D*, Fusion, etc.
  • AI5AI-Don : Just about everyone that I have talked to is ready to trash all their Yaesu equipment.
  • K9EQ-Chris : It certainly doesn't encourage people to try IMRS.
  • AI5AI-Don : Yaesu must have new management with no idea how to do their job. They are running the company into the ground for being so greedy.

  • K9EQ-Chris : I can't believe Yaesu is now charging $410 for the IMRS board that is supplied WITH a repeater! Their manufacturing cost is probably somewhere around $70.
