  • K9EQ-Chris : The Blue Parrott depends on what you want. I have the 350 from years back. Nice thing I discovered about them is that they now have apps and firmware updates that add the "new" features to old products.
  • N0ANE : I am also using cheap generic Chinese trucker headsets and they work just fine.
  • N0ANE : I’ve been much happier with the FTM 300 over the 100 or 400. None of the vox drop out problems that they had.
  • KF5NXR-John : To the gentleman that is using the Blue Parrott solution for bluetooth, what model number of headset is he using that works?

  • KF5NXR-John : Alright folks, having another meeting to held to, 73 and have a great week !
  • KC9IL-Warren : I think he called Yaesu Tech Support today.
  • KC9IL-Warren : We see his repeater and his personal call on the WIRES-X console (lights up green), but transmissions don't go thru. Inbound traffic is fine.
  • K9EQ-Chris : I don't think we have any more ideas. Next step would be to remote into his station and play around.
  • KC9IL-Warren : Still having the problem. Outbound transmissions on Rooms don't key up repeaters or nodes.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Warren, we haven't heard from him.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Haven't heard him
  • KC9IL-Warren : Did Ruffers check in regarding his transmit issue from last week?
  • K9EQ-Chris : Suggest running it off of the AC supply with the battery removed. That exposes the heat sink and may help it stay cooler. At 5 out you're putting 22 watts in.
  • K9EQ-Chris : I've ejected VK5RSC, we'll see if that helps.
  • KM6ARL : Arggh, you guys are right, it's set to Hi and while connected it will not let me change the setting. I will change after the net. Thanks.
  • AI5AI-Don : And we were talking about "LIDS" last week!
  • AI5AI-Don : You need to run the handheld at the lowest power swtting. The handheld will get hot.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Mostly depends on how much it's transmitting. I'd run it at the lowest possible power level. It's not designed for long-duration transmitting.
  • KM6ARL : In PDN mode does anyone else have a very hot (temperature) FT-3dr ?
  • W4IOD-Odis : MAX HEADROOM!!!
  • KF5NXR-John : Letting bit of looping! Goodness! GE Odis
  • W4IOD-Odis : GE John
  • AI5AI-Don : What is "Going to be 73"?
  • KF5NXR-John : yes or more in the past in the past 24 hours
  • N0PXT-Shane : a foot of rain!
  • KF5NXR-John : amazing places around us got a foot or more of rain, all we got was .37 inches here in Caddo Mills, TX. Go figure...
  • KF5NXR-John : Good Evening Everyone! Sorry I'm running a little late this evening!
  • AI5AI-Don : Hello Chris
  • K9EQ-Chris : GE all
  • AI5AI-Don : Hoedy Odis
  • W4IOD-Odis : HowDEE Don
  • W4IOD-Odis : Good evening all 8/22/2022
  • AI5AI-Don : Yes sir/ It had been that way here as well. Some sections of Dallas has received around 14 inches. i just got about 1.5 inches. but i'm about 90 miles south of Texas
  • N0PXT-Shane : really? Where I live here north of the Twin Cities I would say we are almost in drought conditions I think we got a little over an inch of rain last week which was the first decent rain in two months.
  • AI5AI-Don : Hello Shane, Right now Texas is very wet in some places.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Hi Don! How are things in Texas?
  • AI5AI-Don : Howdy y'all from Texas 08/22/2022
  • AI5AI-Don : Thanks Chris
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK SK
  • K9EQ-Chris : 73 Don and may the coming week be LID-free.
  • AI5AI-Don : Good night everyone from Texas! 73
  • K9EQ-Chris : And yet another one: he story that most often makes the rounds in amateur radio circles is that some telegraphers used the lid of a Prince Albert tobacco can to better hear the sounder. These fellows were, in general, poor operators, and “lid” became the designation of any poor operator.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Last bit of previous message: Over time a poor or incapable operator that had been or was about to be “lifted” became known as a “LID”.
  • K9EQ-Chris : And another: One explanation was that when a relay office Telegrapher couldn’t handle the work on the wire he was assigned to, he was “lifted” off the job and reassigned or let go. In telegrapher parlance, when discussing such events over the wires, other operators shortened the word ” lifted” to ” li’d”. Over time a poor or incapable operator that had been or was about to be “li
  • K9EQ-Chris : The quote is from https://www.quora.com/profile/David-10668/
  • K9EQ-Chris : And there's this: Others may have a more plausible answer, but my recollection is that a Morse code operator who sends sloppy, erratic code sounds like he’s using the ‘lid’ off a jar rather than an actual telegraphy key. The term generally means a poor operator who causes problems for other operators.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Good night Joe
  • KM4NHN-Joe : Good night everyone. Eyelids are getting heavy
  • KM4NHN-Joe : lol
  • KK4FWU-Phil : lol i hear the music version often
  • K9EQ-Chris : And here's the musical version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiLtlz1e1Is
  • KM4NHN-Joe : I try to avoid that frequency as much as possible.
  • KK4FWU-Phil : i dont need to. thanks though
  • K9EQ-Chris : You can check here: https://www.repeater-builder.com/humor/how-to-sound-like-a-lid.html for instructions on how to be a LID.
  • KK4FWU-Phil : those are just jackasses
  • KM4NHN-Joe : There are plenty on 7.200
  • KK4FWU-Phil : ahhh
  • K9EQ-Chris : "LID" is a term used to indicate a station using, er, poor station practices. Comes from the ol' CW days. Don't know about the letters LID. Have to look that up. But "LID" = Lousy operator and, perhaps, somewhat annoying.
  • KM4NHN-Joe : A bad operator.
  • KF5NXR-John : I love the camera mic!
  • KK4FWU-Phil : what is a LID?
  • W4IOD-Odis : Keep preaching Don and I'll pass the hat
  • K9EQ-Chris : I typically assign 46100 - 46190 as a block. The extra port #'s are available for other things.
  • AI5AI-Don : Since the no code license came about allowed more to come in.
  • KF5NXR-John : 46100 46110 46112 46114 46120 46122
  • KF5NXR-John : Ports
  • KF5NXR-John : https://www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/contact/pdf/WIRES-X_Manual_ENG_1606-E0.pdf
  • W4IOD-Odis : Don, no shortage of them trust me, I'm speaking from experience.
  • AI5AI-Don : Not really! I just get tired of these LIDs!
  • K9EQ-Chris : Odis and I both think that should work.
  • KA1CNF-Steve : Thank you for the response. I will try it without changing the User ID
  • K9EQ-Chris : Don: Sounds like you've been having "fun".
  • W4IOD-Odis : GE Steve
  • W4IOD-Odis : I heard just ribbing you a bit
  • K3FZT-Steve : Good evening.
  • AI5AI-Don : Odis. We do not have nets on the TXNX. That guy does not know how to use his radios. That was another Ares net. So far the two people that were net controls are VERY rude and WILL NOT listen to what they were told. As you can tell I have a very bad taste in my mouth from that group.
  • N0PXT-Shane : Hi John.
  • KF5NXR-John : GE everyone!

  • KO4ZJU-ric : Thanks for info.
  • KO4ZJU-ric : From Lexington Ky
  • N0PXT-Shane : They can use the repeater but they will be in the same room as you.
  • KO4ZJU : When I connect to wires x through a local repeater do I tie up that repeater so no other radio can use that repeater?
  • KF5NXR-John : Well I was curious if you could run Wires X in a VM, based on that last answer, it sounds like you can!
  • K9EQ-Chris : Okay. Be interesting to hear what it is.
  • KF5NXR-John : I've got a good question tonight, has both myself and Dan KZ5TX scratching our heads!
  • W4IOD-Odis : And Hello Don
  • W4IOD-Odis : HowDEE Don

  • K9EQ-Chris : Nice to hear about the fast no-questions-asked approach on the case crack!
  • KM6ARL : Thanks for the details on the bandwidth.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Thanks for the update Eric
  • W0EDG-Eric : Just a quick update on my FT5 cracked case. Yaesu emailed me tracking today. 10 business days from the day they received it to the day they shipped it back. No charge for repair.
  • W4IOD-Odis : 12.5KHz is the whole pie with C4FM there is no 25KHz
  • KM6ARL : if the we have 12.5K to split voice and data (6.25K) what happens to the other half of the 25K ?
  • K9EQ-Chris : John: Correct. You need a minimum version of firmware for the radio to do PDN at all. Without the firmware, the radio cannot be set to do PDN.
  • KF5NXR-John : Say its old enough (firmware) to connect into Wires X but doesn't allow to transmit say in PDN mode. My understanding the 400 works fine for everything except PDN mode.
  • KZ5TX-Dan : I will ask Bill for the firmware ver of his 400
  • KF5NXR-John : Say for PDN mode....
  • KF5NXR-John : Would firmware on the radio itself cause the radio not to work on XP perhaps?
  • KE0YJJ-Rick : Good evening everyone. I do believe that QST applies
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Dan & Chuck has you on the list
  • W4IOD-Odis : HowDEE Don

  • W4IOD-Odis : Chris (K9EQ) has been working on that if you want to try the repair yourself.

  • guest_177 : test
  • KO4ZJU-Ric : Yes, thanks for clarifying .
  • K9EQ-Chris : Seems like HF conditions are always bad on Field Day. Too bad they don't hold it a month or two earlier when band conditions are much, much better.
  • K9EQ-Chris : Okay, I'll answer on-air.
  • KO4ZJU-Ric : Yep, direct connection
  • K9EQ-Chris : We can explain Fusion vs. WiRES-X on air. Are you listening?
  • KO4ZJU-Ric : Is fusion, wiresx or is wiresx ,fusion? And are both digital?
  • W4IOD-Odis : With Independence Day occurring on Monday July 4th there will be no Bakken Amateur Radio Society System Fusion Net for July 4,2022. • KO4ZJU-Ric : Cool
  • K9EQ-Chris : Ric: Understand, it's actually pretty straight-forward. We can talk more about that in a future net.
  • KO4ZJU-Ric : Trying to understand the inner workings or difference between nodes and repeaters.
  • K9EQ-Chris : I believe he is.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Sorry Don
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK SK
  • KO4ZJU-Ric : KG5AWL IS NOW CONNECTED THROUGH A REPEATER that has a node connected to 21493 room?
  • W4IOD-Odis : it's either PDN mode or Portable HRI mode since you're in the room you're in Portable HRI mode
  • KO4ZJU-Ric : I’m listening in on my ftm-400 in direct digital mode through a wires x node. Did I state that right?
  • KE0YJJguest_9282 : hello
  • guest_9282 : If the repeater is set into the DPID That verrides dgid . Then he can set the dgid to 00
  • KZ5TX-Dan : Howdy Odis, missed seeing you on the Princeton room earlier, hope all is well.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Dan
  • KZ5TX-Dan : Howdy all, Hey Don, I'm hearing the 24 machine very well

  • KK4FWU-Phil : We already have a node on that frequency, plus a repeater.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Night Don
  • KO4ZJU-RIC : Got it thanks. ARRL
  • AI5AI-Don : Good night everyone. 73
  • K9EQ-Chris : Will be doing an after-the-net
  • W4IOD-Odis : You have the google
  • KO4ZJU-RIC : Yes I heard of it but have not found the resource
  • K9EQ-Chris : YSF servers are back up after a recurrence of the same problem. That said, I expect the servers may be up and down for a bit to come.
  • KO4ZJU-RIC : Phil, when I was using your repeater to connect my node what was happening? Was I tying up your repeater? Or should I get back to eating the elephant to find the answer?
  • W4IOD-Odis : Rick, no disrespect intended but have you ever heard of a “Band Plan”?
  • KZ5TX-Dan : First photo is in direct mode, second photo is in access mode
  • KO4ZJU-RIC : So the answer is don’t use a repeater frequency to enter in transceiver settings on the node but use a simplex frequency.
  • W4IOD-Odis : It might make things more complicated as to what band I need to transmit on if the 300 was capable of doing that.
  • KZ5TX-Dan : Coming in a minute
  • AI5AI-Don : Ok, sure
  • KZ5TX-Dan : I can send you a photo of the screen when it is on Port HRI if you like.
  • AI5AI-Don : Thanks Dan. I figuried he was talking out of school!
  • KZ5TX-Dan : Just wanted to agree with you that on the 300,I don't think that you have access to a second frequency
  • AI5AI-Don : Yepper
  • W4IOD-Odis : He was Dan
  • KZ5TX-Dan : Hey Don AI5AI - are you over here
  • KO4ZJU-RIC : Check
  • KK4FWU-Phil : You need to use a different frequency
  • KK4FWU-Phil : why are you using my repeater frequency for your node Ric?
  • KO4ZJU-RIC : I’m still chewing on the elephant, but I have question on the wiresx node set up. In the transceiver settings do I have to have a repeater frequency entered in that section? I’m in digital using hri-200 with my ftm 400dx as my downer radio. I hope I’m asking this question the right way.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Slow I guess
  • KK4FWU-Phil : dont see it
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Phil, I sent you a text
  • AI5AI-Don : Hello Phil
  • KK4FWU-Phil : evening

  • K9EQ-Chris : The Yaesu error messages leave a little bit to be desired.
  • KO4ZJU : check. i have a ftm 400dxr on the way to go digital. im using my 991a now
  • K9EQ-Chris : One thought, if you are running analog then you won't be able to connect. We're digital only.
  • KO4ZJU : might because im using analog?

  • KO4ZJU : yes i just tried to connect to 21493. Error: Connection Busy from MNWIS-CA(21493)
  • K9EQ-Chris : 2022/06/06 17:43:00 Connect Request From KO4ZJU-ND (75586)
  • K9EQ-Chris : You've been trying to connect to 11493, which is the node connected to a repeater. You want to connect to 21493 which is the room.
  • KO4ZJU : how about a node #i can connect to, my node is 75586 my room is 85586. the 21493 stats connection busy
  • N0PXT-Shane : 21493
  • KO4ZJU : whats the room number you guys are in?
  • N0PXT-Shane : Thanks for the question KO4ZJU!
  • KM6ARL : I tried on the radio but did not get in, question: Yaesu wires-X gives two ids one for the room and one for the you(or radio). Can you make a direct call to the radio(you) id ? (kinda like Brian question).
  • KO4ZJU : thanks Chris for the answer, i agree that radio is why im doing this. just curious. 🙂
  • KO4ZJU : Hello folks, I have a question about hri-200. is it possible to use without a radio? i was watching a youtube video and i saw the guy plug a microphone with a some kinda a battery rig and he talked and received.
  • VE3IGN-Don : Rgr
  • K9EQChris : They are building a network similar to ours, but somewhere they have switched both the YSF side and the WiRES-X side to MNWis.
  • VE3IGN-Don : ok
  • K9EQChris : No
  • VE3IGN-Don : Permentantly
  • K9EQChris : I forced VK5RSC out.
  • W4IOD-Odis : VK5RSC has left the MNWis room
  • guest_8921 : Seem like its the same station every week causing the loop issue. Can you block the station. VK5RSC ????????????
  • KK4FWU-Phil : Odis I am listening in. Storm coming in

  • AI5AI-Don : Howdy y'all from Texas 06/06/2022
  • KF0GEX-Paul : Just testing... Hi all!
  • N0ANE : Just like a real net ... a loop
  • N0ANE : DR-2X's always come back to life if I cycle through commands on the second receiver. Not fun to get into a city water tower on a holiday weekend.
  • N0ANE : I believe members of the Texas group has been using the simple clock timer to restart each night. Not going to impress anyone but it keeps from frustrating inconvenient trips. Thankfully my DR-2x
  • N0ANE : As I continue to "play" with the FT-5, it is exactly as you said, Chris. Now I've got a problem that I never knew I had. :-;
  • W4IOD-Odis : FB
  • KZ5TX-Dan : test
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Dan

  • KC8I-Lyn : Not sure the link below is convenient. Search for "sc-55" and look for WIRES-X Connection Cable Kit SCU-57 / SCU-58.
  • KC8I-Lyn : Link to the new Prolific (!!) SCU drivers... https://www.yaesu.com › downloadFile.cfm?FileID=17445&FileCatID=42&FileName=WIRES-X_Connection_Cable_Kit_Driver_Installation_Manual_ENG_2205-A.pdf&FileContentType=application › pdf
  • KO4ZJU : Cool thanks for patience.
  • K9EQ-Chris : GE all
  • KK4FWU-Phil : 73 odis.. thanks
  • KK4FWU-Phil : Rick give me a shout the local repeaters. Plenty of people around will help. Odis is the guru for wires x around here. Im sure he can help at some point. watch the video he sent you
  • W4IOD-Odis : Everyone have a good evening and stay safe 73 de W4IOD SK SK
  • AI5AI-Don : Goodnight everyone. 73
  • W4IOD-Odis : Rick, watch the video best advice I can give you. you're going to get blocked from repeaters & rooms messing around if you don't know what your doing.
  • KK4FWU-Phil : Odis can you disconnect when its over?
  • KO4ZJU : 😁
  • KK4FWU-Phil : Yes Rick the KK4FWU Repeater is connected to the MNWis room for the net. Dont touch anything 😉
  • KO4ZJU : I’m listening now on 444.125
  • KO4ZJU : Kk4fwu is same net? I guess you can tell I need more research into how repeaters work. I just passed my tech back in April , I have no experience in electronics. My expertise is carpentry. My interest got peeked while getting my 107 license for flying drones commercial
  • W4IOD-Odis : Yes Rick the 442.100 is the W4IOD repeater
  • W4IOD-Odis : Gremlins
  • W4IOD-Odis : I'm sure Rick appreciates it Phil it seems to keep disconnecting.
  • KK4FWU-Phil : I connected it back Odis.
  • KO4ZJU : I guess that 442.100 is your repeater?
  • KO4ZJU : I will do more research on wiresx. I haven been hooking up to America link, I think that’s what it’s called, seeing different nodes available
  • W4IOD-Odis : Must have a good antenna
  • KO4ZJU : Yep
  • W4IOD-Odis : KO4ZJU Rick, are you still listening to us on the net?
  • KO4ZJU : Thanks O.
  • W4IOD-Odis : KO4ZJU: start here https://www.hamoperator.com/Hamoperator/WiRES-X_Bible/WiRES-X_Bible.html
  • W4IOD-Odis : Hello Phil
  • KO4ZJU : So when I push wiresx on my y991a I’m leaving c4fm? Seems as though I have access to group monitoring in both modes. I can’t get to wires x directly from fm mode. I have to be in c4fm to enter wiresx
  • W4IOD-Odis : System Fusion - Open specification with proprietary vocoder system available from Yaesu. Uses AMBE CODEC with C4FM modulation. The newest digital radio mode while C4FM is open standard the Wires X part is not and is only available (Proprietary) to Yaesu. To date Yaesu is the only manufacturer of radios for C4FM. T
  • KO4ZJU : Is c4fm different from wires x
  • KO4ZJU : Cool, look forward to it. I will watch this one though.
  • W4IOD-Odis : It's not that kind of video Rick I do have a presentation that covers that, but I have not applied it to narration and an actual video yet.
  • KO4ZJU : Perfect timing on the YouTube video Otis, that was going to be my question tonight. Explain deference in digital modes.
  • KO4ZJU : On the net kkfwu.
  • K9EQ-Chris : My latest YouTube uplink - nothing to do with Ham Radio. Just me flying my aircraft around a new housing development near me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vXbEggtp2w&t Nice if you want to just laze around in the air.

  • W4IOD-Odis : Want to bet? https://youtu.be/MLSDj-MiWzY

  • W9AUV-Terry : Maybe a wires-x only net would be a better way to go for a Fusion technical net
  • W9AUV-Terry : That was pretty messed up tonight
  • AI5AI-Don : Good night everyone 73
  • K3FZT-Steve : Thank you for the effort tonight. Many challenges. 73
  • WA7HPK : I was attempting to give a shout out to Rick KO4ZJU - brand new Technician and tonight was his first QSO/NET
  • WA7HPK : Found the chat window for MNWis. Will explore this site more in-depth.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Terry, he was caught in the YSF echo loop
  • W9AUV-Terry : no audio from wa7hpk
  • WO1VES-Brian : Yeah, I took my eyes off it, and it walked off all by itself. It even turned itself on and keyed up in the middle of the night.
  • W4IOD-Odis : Brian, did it walk off on it's own?
  • WO1VES-Brian : The last keyup I have on that radio ID was on my portable repeater that was up at the hamfest at 4:39 AM Eastern, when I was sound asleep. GPS points to the fairground.
  • WO1VES-Brian : So if anyone sees the radio ID E0Iuk show up, please let me know the call sign and GPS coordinates that show with it. Thanks!
  • WO1VES-Brian : Greetings All, I'm not sure if I should mention this over the air or not. But over the weekend, my FT1D was stolen. I was at a two day ham fest where you camp overnight at your table. Stupid me, I got tired, and accidentally left my FT1D sitting outside on a table at my site, and when I got up in the morning it was gone.
